How Septic Systems Work
It’s important to have a basic understanding of how your septic system works to ensure that it continues to work effectively year after year.
A standard septic system has three major components.
Septic Tank
Buried underground, the tank is where your home's waste sits as liquids are filtered back into the ground and solids are pumped out.
Filter
Septic filters are used to prevent solid waste from entering your weeping bed, which can cause all sorts of problems for your property and environment.
Weeping Bed
This is an area on your property that is excavated and outfitted with perforated pipes that allow liquid water to seep into the ground to be filtered through soil, minerals, stone and other aggregates before being reintroduced to the groundwater.
